Guidelines/expectations
There are 3 basic guidelines in our class:
Respect for yourself
for others
for the environment
Behavior management and discipline
While I encourage self-monitoring of behavior, I am aware that some children need a visual monitoring system. There are 3 circles on our whiteboard, one green, one yellow and one red. Each child has a magnet with her/his name on it and begins the day on green. The goal is to stay on green, which means "on track". If the child makes a poor choice and doesn't follow our guidelines, the magnet is moved to yellow. This is a warning to re-focus and get back on track. The child will fill out a re-focus form which will help identify the behavior that needs changing. If for some reason the child doesn't re-focus (which is rare) the magnet moves to red which signifies a glaring warning. At this point the child will receive a behavior ticket which is part of our school-wide behavior system.
If your child receives either a re-focus sheet and/or a behavior ticket you will be notified by phone or e-mail to let you know it is coming home that evening. It must be signed and returned the following day.
